As 2018 comes to an end, there is no better time to look back on the lessons learnt, how far we’ve come and all there is to be grateful for. There’s been highs and lows, but of all the lessons learnt this year, there are three in particular that have helped shape our startup journey.
1. Surround yourself with like-minded people
The people who are on the same path as you, or have traveled a similar journey, are the best to learn from. Whether they are starting, or experienced, each will have their own unique experiences and lessons to share. Your environment shapes who you are, so placing yourself within a positive and engaging network is essential for growth.
2. Live up to your company values
Core values are what defines your company, supports your vision and shapes the culture. Your company’s values also help educate clients and potential customers on what the company is about. Having a set of core values that speak to the community is a competitive advantage.
3. Stay focused
It’s easy to get distracted when starting, so it’s important to remain focused on the one thing that brings value to your customers. It’s smarter to focus on a few things and do these well, rather than spreading yourself too thin and making little progress. Understanding the one thing that matters most to your customers will enhance your value proposition.
This journey would not be possible without the support of family and friends. Thank you to everyone who has offered their time, advice, networks and encouragement. We look forward to continuing this journey with you and can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for us.
Ngā mihi o te Kirihimete me te Tau Hou.
